Hospital Admission

Friday morning I was admitted into our local hospital due to puking and D .....it had been going on for 10 days. Dehydration was another enemy while I was sick. My mom called the GI doc's and we were instructed to go to the local ER.

We were taken back ASAP; 2 nurses were working on me....one undressing me and putting the hopital gown on. The other nurse was trying to get a IV in my hand- OUCH!!! She hit a nerve....I just about came off that table. I haven't cried over an IV ever~ they have just never hurt~ but I was crying like a baby that time.

They got a bag of fluids started and then injected phen. and Zofran and I finally calmed down. Here is what my diagnosis might be:

Endometriosis- yes I had Hysto but endo doesn't need organs to feed off of
IBS- most likely always had it but the recent surgeries "pissed it off" per the GI doc
Combo- this is the one I hink is most lkley

********** I am going to stay on the anti_nausea meds and immodium*******************

june 2nd I will have an Endoscopy. For now, my fingers are crossed and I have lots of prayers that the GI doc will find the source of all his.

OK- nuff of that:)

It's 1:30am and I am on here.....sleeping is a challenge right now. Tylenol PM has been my best friend...now though it doesn't keep me alseep.

This is sort of a ramble instead of a post but I am just sooooo good at rambling.

~~ if anyone has any expeirence w/ this or has a guess on what is going on w/ me leave me a comment~~~

All Nighter!

I am 27 years old and pulled my first all nighter Friday night.......at work. Oh yeah, I am wild:)

Of course I am not counting the all night baby days.....b/c at least then I did get to sneak in an hour here or there. But Friday night I was up until 9am. It was not that hard.

We have 36 beds on my unit. We had all filled but 2. Well, the Emergency Dept called and said they had 2 traumas that we were getting due to the Trauma Floor was booked up. This is where your second wind of energy kicks in and its awesome. I loved the excitment and they chaos....it was great.

I have wonderful nurses that are so sweet to help me and teach me new things. I feel blessed that I was given this job.

Now on to why I am not at work now- I technically should be leaving the floor right now....not home posting on my blog. So can you guess what happened????

Puking.....yes you read that right. I woke up Saturday at 2pm.....felt ok. Then all of a sudden - things went down hill....fast. I had tummy issues.....and puking going on. So since I have not been to my post op yet I decided it was best to call the doc on call. One of the sweetest midwives called back. She called in some Phenergren (sp?) supp. for me- TMI TMI TMI....but since I could not keep anything "in" or "down" I had to use the supp in an aleterniative place....ladies I am sure you know what I am speaking of. So, after about an hour and a half I was finally able to keep Sprite down. Then some toast. I am about to eat some soup.....fingers crossed. I used the supp etc so I feel like I should be ok to try the soup.

I called the nurse manager yesterday and she said for me to def not bring this virus to the floor. So my first weekend I had to miss work. Story of my life. That goodness I have very understanding coworkers.

I have not threw up so far this morning- knock on wood. But due to my recent surgery I have strict instructions to stay in bed for at least 24 hours....and they do not want me to go to work until its been 3 days since my last stomach episode- BUT I am pretty sure I am going back to work tonight= if I am feeling better. Afterall, after tonight I am not back on the floor until Friday night.

Sorry for such a long boring post- but hey it is Bostic Basics- and unfortunately this is our life:)

My first "night" of work

Sick of my work posts??? I know I am but alas, it is what is going on with me right now. I am THAT exciting.

Ok, I have asked around for tips on when to sleep, how long to sleep, tricks to staying awake....then making myself go to sleep. Here is the plan:

Stayed up as late as I could last night= which was stupid b/c of course I fell asleep earlier than normal....grrr.

Take Blake to the great grands around 12:30 or 1:00 and then come home and nap.

I sure hope this does the trick. I am going to take Sundrop w/ me. I don't drink coffee so this soda will have to be my caffiene in a cup.

I don't have any idea how I will feel when I get home tomorrow morning. So, no plans on sleeping after work. I will just see how I feel and go from there.

Blake knows I will be working tonight- but daddy will be home w/ him. Then mommy, will be home in the morning. He is cool with it- for now:) Bobby is going to have his hands full tonight- hahhahahhahahhahhahaa should be interesting...

I will update either tonight from work (I am told to bring a book etc) or tomorrow after I sleep.

New Job

Friday was my first day at my NEW JOB!!!! I love it.....well I guess we all love our jobs the first couple days lol

My job duties are:

answer the call bells from the patient's rooms
coordinate getting those needs meet (paging the nurse and alerting her to the patient's needs)
keying in all doctor's and nurses orders (ordering tests, labs, consults, xrays etc)
answering the nurse station phone (usually its family calling to check on the patients)

That is pretty much what I do. I work on the neurosurgical floor for a major hospital about 30 minutes away from my house. My shift is weekend graves.....yep I work Fri- Sun 7p-7a. I accepted this shift b/c Blake starts kindergarten and I want to be able to attend field trips and do room mom stuff.

I also love being apart of this team.....our nurses, docs, techs are all great. Sarcastic but loving- just like my family.

Wednesday I have to work 7a-7p for one more day of training on the floor ....then Friday I start my schedule.

Wish me luck!!!!!

My Mother's Day

I have been a naughty blogger~ please forgive my absence.

My sweet boys did a great job on my Mother's Day gifts. Bobby picked out the card- it was very cute and he drew on it to personalize it. The card had 2 bears and he drew hair on them and his shirt read "I love UNC" and Blake's bear's shirt read " I love Bugs!" - LMBO how true....how true. Then he wrote how much I was loved.....and how strong I was the previous week*. I also got a dozen roses- ranging from white- blush pink- dark pink- to red. BEAUTIFUL!!!!

We spent the day at the great grands house, where we had BBQ and rice krispy treats. My mom also got a quick visit from us.

Such a PERFECT day~ thanky you my sweet sweet boys:)

* I had a VERY rough week prior to Mother's Day weekend....here is what that week consisted of....Thursday- 3 doc appts...2 pre-ops and 1 specialist.....Friday- dentist appt- root canal.....Monday- 2 job interviews (offered both jobs w/ in the hour of my interviews).......Tuesday- surgery.....Wednesday and Thursday- unit sec. training (for new job).......Friday.....worked first day on the floor (I work in the nurses station at a major hospital).... THIS is why Bobby put he was so proud of how strong I was. I must say I agree- I ROCKED that week huh???

Hard time sleeping!

I finally got to go to sleep at 10:30ish.....and now at 1:00ish I am awake again. I am 72 hrs past surgery= horrible horrible shoulder/back/neck pain going on....which I am sure is due to the gas they used or the position they had me in. Hurts so bad= I am using the heating pad and it may have helped a bit.

Started my new job....love it. I am soooo tired right now and will give more details in another post tomorrow. (or later today I suppose)

Just wanted to document the lack of sleep- since it will be an issue in the future, as I will be working nights for the first time ever.....yeah its gonna suck getting used to this.

My new job~ and post-op report.

Post-op report: I am doing very good. I have attended my unit sec. orientation classes and I report on the floor tomorrow at 6:45am. The day time unit sec. will train me. Still not sure on what my schedule will be like for the next couple of weeks but I do know my dress code.

Warning~ do not get jealous of me~ I HAVE to wear this:

White top~ polo or blouse
Black bottom ~ scrub like or dress pants.
Shoes~ all black or all white.
Teal lab coat.

Yeah, so my colors every day are black, white, and teal. We'll see what I can do w/ this. As long as we can wear comfortable shoes I will be ok.

Tomorrow, if I am not too exhausted, I will fill you all in on the details.

Off to bed....

Surgery Time..............

Tomorrow is surgery day for me -yay!! This is the surgery that could possibly - fix it all. We shall see. The plan is to be at the hospital @ 10:30am for a 1:00pm surgery. It will be outpatient - should last 30 minutes to an hour. Dr. P is searching for scar tissue on the bowel and/ or bladder.

I don't think I will be too absent from here....as I will have to rest for about a week.

Oh oh....I forgot the most exciting news of the day....I got a job. I have been an employee of my company but out on short term leave - during this leave I had to find another position to fill or I would be terminated. As luck would have it I interviewed for 2 positions today and got offers on both of them. Out of cubicle world- ah...such a wonderful feeling. My new position is unit sec. for neuro/surg. The downfall is my schedule stinks= until I can get adjusted to it....I will work 7p-7a Fri, Sat, and Sun....but i will have off thru the week to be a room mom or something for Blake's class.

I will hopefully post an update tomorrow eveing IF I am not too groggy.

Short update ....

I had two interviews today. They were both part clinical and part clerical....I am ready to try something different. Cubical world gets old FAST.

That is all for now- I have a migraine and need to rest.

** tomorrow is surgery day- send praers and vibes my way tomorrow**

Have a great Monday:)

Updates

Where to begin a post of random updates....hmmm I know! Let's start w/ me...

I had 3 appts yesterday. The frist appt was a pre-op w/ my OB/GYN for my surgery on Tuesday 5/5....then I went to the hospital to pre=register and have my pre-op bloodwork etc done. Finally, I went to my appt w/ the specialist.

Here is the best news I have heard since I was diagnosed w/ Endo.....the spine doc can do a nerve block type procedure for the pelvic region. She said she has been very successful and it last AT LEAST a year. I could cry just thinking that I could be pain free/ nausea/vomit free for an entire year.

The LAP is still needed to make sure there is nothing left to be surgically removed or taken care of....then I see the spec doc in one month IF I still need to.

Oh and just for icing on the cake- I have a work in dentist appt at 7am today. Orajel has been my life saver for 2 days. I NEVER knew it actually worked...hunh- so for future reference peeps- if you have tooth pain....orajel rocks.

Monday- I have an interview for a job ~~gasp~~ at C.M.C main- post surgery recovery.....but it will be 3rd shift Fri., Sat., and Sun (7am-9pm). IF I can adjust to this schedule it will be awesome b/c Blake will start Kindergarten and I can take him to school, sleep, and pick him up. Also, I can be room mom!!!!! I have always wanted to be a room mom!!!

Sorry if this is all random and boring but it is my life.....welcome.
